Social justice is a vision for a society which treats all individuals justly and fairly and where each person has access to basic human rights such as safety and security. It is a vision where all people have a fair chance at success.
An unjust society is one where conditions exist that make it impossible for all people to have opportunties to participate in the basic social benefits. Poverty exists where economic injustice exists, where income and resouces are below what is needed to meet basic human needs. Persistent hunger and the devastating impact of poverty cripple the chances of individuals and families to sustain themselves and thrive.
